Welcome Maple

Located in the central Appalachia region of West Virginia, Maple Coal operates one underground mine (Eagle No.1) and a surface mine (Sycamore). Combined the mines have the capacity to produce nearly 2 million tons (short) per year. The underground mine produces metallurgical coal sold to international and domestic steel makers. The surface mine produces thermal coal and sold to energy plants in the USA.

The majority of the coal is processed at the Katie Preparation plant before being delivered via truck to load out facilities on the Kanawha River. The plant has the capacity to handle 450 tons per hour of raw feed.

While recent regulatory announcements regarding valley fill may impact the long term efficiency of some surface mining operations, the Maple mine is in a position to continue mining with minimal impact for several years.

The reserves (saleable) and resources (in situ) are 30 million and 92 million respectively at the mine. This is according to the April 2009 Marshall Miller & Associates 43-101 report.
